Viburnum Odoratissimum aka Sweet Viburnum
Produces a large and leathery, dark glossy green leaf. Fragrant clusters of small white flowers in the spring. Considered to be an evergreen that can be used as a privacy hedge, an accent plant, or even can be made into a small tree. Reaches 25 to 30 feet tall at maturity. Its dense, spreading way of growth makes an amazing privacy hedge along your property line or around your pool enclosure. Use it to hide your pool equipment or ac system. You can even use it as an accent plant. Produces a small red berry that when ripe will turn black that is somewhat showy. The berries are said to be a good food source for birds. Considered to be fast growing. Likes a full sun to part shade location in the landscape. Tolerates most soils. Cold hardy zone 9. Said to be somewhat drought tolerant once established but like most other plants prefers a regular watering schedule. Salt tolerant including salty wind which makes it a great choice for the coastal landscape. Viburnum is said to not be toxic to pets. Fertilize 3 times per year with a good granular slow release (ie: 20-20-20, 20-30-20, or 18-24-16) in spring, summer, and fall. You can use stake-type fertilizer and or liquid if you prefer.
